Welcome to my NEW cyber home!

Farewell for now x

Welcome to the new David Lawrie website. I’ve spent the last two weeks working on it with a little help from Nathan Simpsonwho got me started with coding in PHP. I really hope you enjoy it.

I now understand why web developers dislike Internet Explorer with such vigour, and so, I am sorry if you are looking at these words in IE 6-8 (I haven’t been able to test on 9). It doesn’t look as pretty for you as it does for those viewing in Chrome or Safari (or even Firefox, at a push).

A lot has happened as I’ve been working on the site. I suppose the most significant is Hurricane Sandy. The storm was causing a heck of a commotion outside and the house felt like it was going to take off, but I was safely tucked up inside, working on what you are looking at right now, whilst listening to the complete works of Erik Satie performed by Håkon Austbø, a selection of Arvo Pärt performed by the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and Henryk Górecki’s Symphony of Sorrowful Songs performed by The Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra.

A disaster made beautiful by music.

Fortunately Connecticut wasn’t hit too hard. New York is still suffering, and my best wishes go to those I know and those I don’t in NYC. I hope everything gets back to normal as soon as possible.

It feels nice to have a new digital home for myself. It feels like a fresh start, and I have a bank of material to release over the coming months. I have a few pieces of work that were never officially released, mainly because they don’t really fit in with any of my other solo work, but I’ll probably make them available on this site from time to time.

You can have a listen to the electroacoustic piece I composed to accompany Natalie Ward’s artwork in the audiovisual exhibition The Tempest which was installed in Pyramid Gallery,York in August of last year. You can download it from bandcamp for whatever price you want (free is fine, too!)

I hope you enjoy looking around the new website. Please leave comments on news items, join me on the social network links, and keep coming back to see new features as they are implemented.

Thank you all for your continued support, it means so much to me!
